Why does my badminton clear keep falling short?
If every clear lands around mid-court, swinging harder is a tempting answer. Before adding effort, check where you meet the shuttle and how tightly you hold the racket.
Ask about training
Look at preparation before strength
A shuttle contacted late, behind your useful hitting position, leaves fewer options. A grip that stays tight throughout the swing can also make preparation awkward. These are possibilities to check, not a diagnosis from a website. Notice whether a comfortable stationary feed travels farther than a shot played after moving.
Make the task easier to understand
Ask for a repeatable feed and aim into a broad rear-court area. Prepare early, keep the hand relaxed between contacts and finish in balance. If the shuttle keeps being sliced, slow down and review the racket face with a coach. Judge height, depth and repeatability together; one long shot does not mean the problem is solved.
Bring the clear back into a rally
Add a small movement only when the contact is repeatable. Then practise clearing and recovering for the next shot. The purpose is to create time and useful depth, rather than to force the shuttle to the baseline from every awkward position.
What to check during training
During training, a useful starting point is a short observation task: a few controlled shots, a simple movement pattern, then a rally. This helps separate a technique problem from a task that is simply too difficult at the current level. Work on one change at a time and check whether it still works when the feed becomes less predictable.
Questions learners ask
Do I need a new racket first?
A suitable racket matters, but buying one does not explain late contact or an inconsistent racket face. Review the movement first.
Should I practise at full power?
Start at a pace where you can control the contact. Add distance and movement without losing balance.
