A foundation-first class for Cheras learners

ST Badminton Academy provides badminton training for children and adults at Aster Residence Cheras. Children learn racket control and balanced movement through manageable tasks; adult beginners and returning players work on grip, footwork and stroke habits with coaching feedback.

Aster Residence is on Jalan Cheras Hartamas, near Taman Connaught MRT. Its residential sports hall includes badminton facilities. Tell STBA the learner’s age, experience and goal to arrange a suitable lesson and confirm condominium access.

Move with balance before reaching for the shuttle

Start in a ready stance with soft knees and the racket held in front. Learn to time the split step to the opponent’s contact, then move toward the shuttle without rushing or crossing the feet awkwardly. The coach can slow the task down when balance breaks.

At the front court, practise a controlled racket-side lunge with the knee following the direction of the foot. Recover toward a useful base position after the shot. Footwork is taught together with the stroke, so reaching the shuttle does not become the only goal.

Learn grip and contact before hitting harder

A relaxed grip helps the fingers adjust the racket face. Beginners learn the difference between forehand and backhand grips, then practise short, controlled contact tasks. Squeezing the handle all the time can make changing grips and controlling the shuttle more difficult.

For overhead strokes, learn preparation, body positioning and a comfortable contact point step by step. Controlled feeds help the coach check whether the learner repeats the movement correctly. Power and faster rallies are added when the foundation is ready, rather than forcing a jump smash.

How a structured lesson works

  1. Prepare

Warm up, check balance and revisit the previous teaching point.

  2. Learn one skill

Watch a demonstration and understand the purpose of the movement.

  3. Practise with feedback

Repeat a manageable task and correct grip, timing or foot placement.

  4. Apply and review

Use a controlled rally to check the skill and identify the next practice goal.
