Benefits of Badminton Training

Badminton Sharing

We highly recommend that parents read about the benefits of badminton training. Our badminton coach has observed some parents frequently playing badminton with their kids during the weekend, which is great for spending quality family time together. Additionally, some children show a real passion for the sport. We share this information not to attract more students and earn additional revenue, as we are currently at full capacity for this year and are unable to accept any additional students. Rather, we hope that parents will gain a deeper understanding of the value of proper badminton training.

Why our badminton coach can feel the kids like badminton

Why our badminton coach can feel the kids like badminton

Why can our badminton coach feel that kids like badminton? He has observed some children learning patterns or badminton skills from professional players online. These skills are often found on various social media platforms, such as Instagram short stories, reels, TikTok, Facebook, and some YouTube channels, as well as the BWF badminton tournaments featuring world No.1 Victor Viktor Axelsen, and some Chinese sharing videos. However, the issue is that these patterns only provide a superficial understanding of badminton and are not complete. There are both good and bad examples, as illustrated below.

The Good benefits of badminton training

The good benefits of badminton training are important to understand

Especially if your child enjoys playing badminton. It is a fortunate thing when children show an interest in badminton because many parents force their children to take part in activities they don’t like, which is a waste of money and effort. It’s uncommon to find a child who likes badminton from the start, so parents must look for a good badminton coach to ensure their children receive proper training.

Professional badminton training is highly beneficial as it teaches children professional skills without bad habits. Badminton foundations can be complex, and if children learn from an unprofessional coach, they may not learn the right techniques, leading to bad habits that are difficult to change. Proper footwork, game strategy, and all the other skills that involve feelings and tactics cannot be learned online. They can also learn the proper foundation sets. For a small amount of training fees, parents can rest assured that their children receive the best badminton education. These skills can be used throughout their lives and set them apart from those who don’t have proper training. We feel that it is worth the investment.

As we have seen from our many student batches, every parent is willing to spend a little more money to give their children a better education, even in badminton training. The few dollars we earn do not come close to the value of a child’s proper education. It is not an issue of the children not being hardworking, but a matter of wrong parenting mindsets.

The Bad things of Badminton Training

The Bad things of Badminton Training

While badminton training has many benefits, there are some negative aspects to consider if parents choose the wrong badminton classes for their kids. Some badminton coaches may prioritize making money over actually helping students improve, so it’s important for parents to monitor their children’s progress and choose a reputable class.

Some parents may also believe that badminton is not necessary for their child’s future and opt to save money by not enrolling them in classes. However, this is not a sustainable approach, as sports provide unique opportunities for personal growth and skill development that cannot be learned in a classroom. As children progress in badminton, they will encounter new challenges and meet different people, which can be a valuable experience for them.

Providing proper badminton lessons is a way to help children build discipline and improve their physical and mental health, while also developing skills that they can use throughout their lives. Education and sports are not mutually exclusive, and parents should encourage their children to learn and grow in both areas to achieve a well-rounded and successful life.

Why Kids should join Badminton Training

Why Kids should join Badminton Training

If children enjoy playing badminton but are not allowed to join due to their parents’ objections or belief that it is unnecessary, they may develop bad habits from learning on their own. The issue of bad habits is a concern for badminton coaches, as correcting them is a difficult process. It can take several months for a child to change a specific bad habit, and once muscle memory is established, it becomes even more challenging to correct.

Therefore, ST Badminton Academy recommends that parents send their children to badminton training early if they discover a genuine interest in the sport. In Malaysia, many children enjoy playing badminton but are reluctant to join training even when their parents encourage them. This can be due to the fact that their parents waited too long to enroll them, causing the children to develop multiple bad habits that are difficult to break.

When children with entrenched bad habits do finally enroll in training, coaches may become frustrated with their slow progress and scold them, which can cause them to lose interest and quit altogether. Therefore, it is essential for parents to understand that delaying their children’s participation in badminton training can be detrimental to their development in the sport.

Benefit From Professional Badminton Class

Benefit From Professional Badminton Class

Parents who have sent their children to badminton classes but feel that they have been cheated due to slow improvement, disorganized training, and unprofessional coaches are now realizing the importance of class quality. It is always advisable to choose a professional badminton class instead of a casual one. This is because, during childhood, children have a fresh mind and know very little about badminton. The coach who teaches them plays a vital role in their development. A coach who knows how to teach can help children improve their foundation in a short period of time, even if they are slow learners. Professional badminton classes for kids customize training methods to suit each child’s individual needs and ensure they improve as quickly as possible.

However, in casual training, coaches are more focused on making money than on student improvement. They plan coaching methods according to class size, which means that all students learn the same thing and stand around to do some exercise because the court space is limited. In such cases, if the class size is big, the coach’s main intention is to make every student sweat and show something to their parents, instead of focusing on each student’s individual progress.

It is important for parents to choose the right badminton coach to support their children’s interests. Choosing a good badminton lesson or coach is never easy, especially in a country like Malaysia, where everything is advertised online. Some coaches may influence parents who know nothing about badminton to enroll their children in their classes, but these children may end up making little progress and wanting to quit. In such cases, unprofessional coaches may not care much since they have already taken the lesson fees for several months, and their reputation is not at stake if the child quits. Such badminton coaches will eventually face consequences.

To prevent such occurrences, our badminton coaches have shared several ideas with IT companies to create tools that can help parents choose the best badminton coach for their children.

Look for Good Badminton Coach

Look for Good Badminton Coach

Not every badminton coach is bad, but as a parent, we must help our children find a good coach. Most parents tend to look for expensive coaches, ex-national players, or coaches with many Google reviews, but all of these things can be fake. So, what is the best way to find the right coach? To be honest, it is not easy to determine if a coach is good or bad at the beginning because we cannot see how much improvement they can bring to our kids.

The best way for parents to find a good coach is to monitor their children’s improvement in the first three months, look for opportunities to accompany their children on the court, sit behind the court and observe, and let the badminton coach be more hardworking. At the same time, monitor the coach’s character and training structure. Slowly, parents will have the 100% correct answer as to whether they have found a good or bad coach.

The experience of a badminton coach is much more important than how many medals or certifications the coach has. In Malaysia, most badminton academies require coaches to take courses and register as accredited badminton coaches, but some coaches treat coaching as a career to pass time without putting in effort to help the younger generation improve. Being a coach is not just about being good at badminton, but also about teaching children everything the coach knows and continuously improving so that students can improve.

Technology keeps changing, and training methods also evolve. If coaches don’t keep improving and adapting to new technology, no matter how many years of experience they have, it is meaningless. Some coaches may stick to traditional training methods and refuse to believe that new technology can help. However, to bring out the best in students, coaches must continue to improve and move forward. We should not live in the past and must carry forward, even in badminton class.

Build Good Foundation in Badminton Training

Build Good Foundation in Badminton Training

However, most parents believe that sending their children to badminton training is enough to build a good foundation. But what if the badminton coach is not skilled enough to teach? Many badminton academies in Malaysia do not focus on building a strong foundation for kids. Instead, they start with simple surface-level training like footwork and swinging a racket. But even if children learn these skills, they might develop a weak basic foundation, which can hinder their progress in the long run. The following are some common surface-level training techniques:

Footwork Training in Badminton

1. Footwork Training

Footwork is not just about stepping forward and rotating. To develop a strong foundation in badminton, children need to remember many different aspects of footwork. At ST Badminton Academy, we place a lot of emphasis on footwork because it is crucial for students to learn the professional way of playing badminton.

In badminton classes, there are more than 4 to 6 types of footwork for just single footwork, and our students must learn all of them to master this fundamental skill. We do not rush our students to learn footwork casually and quickly teach them how to hit the shuttle. Footwork is one of the most important aspects of badminton, and we want our students to be smooth and efficient in changing their footwork before teaching them how to swing a racket.

Our badminton coaches closely monitor our students to ensure they learn all types of footwork and perform them correctly. Footwork is related to injury, and incorrect technique can lead to knee or leg injuries in both young and adult players. This is why it is crucial to establish a strong foundation in badminton, especially with regards to footwork.

Strokes Training in Badminton

2. Strokes Training

When training our students in stroke techniques, we emphasize the importance of generating strength from the hand, wrist, shoulder, and body. Our main focus is on building a strong foundation rather than just teaching the kids how to hit the shuttle quickly. However, if the kids use the wrong techniques to generate power, such as the wrong wrist position or grip, their badminton skills may look unprofessional and unattractive.

If bad habits develop and they learn how to hit the shuttlecock in the wrong way, their badminton career will not progress as the foundation is weak, and it can be challenging to correct the bad habits. Some parents are concerned about their children’s inability to hit the shuttlecock, but if the coach lacks experience, they may simply comply with the parents’ demands without focusing on the correct techniques. This is a bad practice because it disregards the importance of developing a strong foundation.

We understand that parents want their children to play better, but it is pointless if the children learn the wrong foundation, even if they can hit the shuttlecock. It will hinder their progress and not be worth it in the long run. Building a strong foundation takes time, and it is crucial for the students to learn the correct techniques from the beginning.

Movement Training in Badminton

3. Movement Training

To clarify, when we talk about movement training, we are not referring to the coach playing games with the students, making them run around aimlessly. Movement training in foundation training is about helping students naturally adapt their movement to the footwork they have learned. Some children, after learning professional footwork, may revert to their old habits when moving or chasing the shuttlecock. Our movement training method helps students stay consistent with what they have learned in badminton to prevent confusion and pointless training.

We have observed that some badminton training centers teach students how to hit the shuttlecock before teaching them footwork. This approach is not the correct way to plan for foundation development. When students learn to hit the shuttle without proper footwork, they may not be able to run correctly during gameplay or develop bad habits that can hinder their progress.

At ST Badminton Academy, we strictly follow a structured training class that makes sense for our students to ensure they can improve within a short period of time. We hope parents find this information useful in understanding the benefits of badminton training. Thank you for reading.
