Basic Badminton Training Principles

Mastering the basics of badminton is essential. From the grips to the footwork, from the serves to the smashes, proper training can help you get the most out of your game especially, when you are at the beginner level. Never ever learn on your own unless you have a very good foundation. If an experienced player, when wants to learn a new skill they just need to think and find out the concept of what and how to do it.

But players without a good foundation might be misunderstood on how to learn certain skills causing them to gain more bad habits. So the best way is to look for a badminton coach and learn it properly from the beginning.

1. Understanding Your Weaknesses

Understanding your weaknesses and working to overcome them is key. Joining badminton lessons is all about how our coach finds a solution to improve your overall badminton skills, and that means identifying and understanding what you need to improve on. There more you improve on your weakness, the more chances you become a better player.

According to ST Badminton Academy, you have to find out your weaknesses to identify them. This can be done through self-assessment, by recording a video when you are playing and give to your coach to find out your weakness instead yourself. Once you have identified your weaknesses, it’s time to start working on them.

2. Developing a Strategy

Developing your training strategy and the game strategy is the same thing. If you are able to understand the importance of training strategy, it can help you improve all your skills within a short period of time. Asking your badminton coach to develop a strategy during training can be an easy task because you already know what you want.

It’s important to focus on areas that you’re weak in, as this will help you make the most out of your time practicing. For example, if your service is weak, and always mistakes a lot when the service is double, it’s a good idea to focus on improving that area.

3. Acquiring the Skills

Always get the right training that can help you quickly acquire the skills necessary to improve at the game. You should learn about the different strokes and skill sets, such as the serve, forehand, backhand, smashes, clears, and more.

In fact, the key to becoming a better badminton player is practice, practice, and more practice. You should practice with a partner or a badminton coach so that you can get feedback on your technique and improve upon it.

Turn your weakness into strength by practice your Techniques in Badminton Training

Practice your Techniques

When it comes to badminton training, there are a few key techniques you should be aware of, and practice regularly. Firstly, it’s important to focus on your footwork. At least do some footwork drills twice a week. This is the foundation of any good badminton player, so it’s important to focus on improving your footwork through drills and exercises. It’s important to practice your technique with different skill sets to improve consistency and accuracy.

1. Footwork

Having great footwork is essential for success in badminton, proper footwork can help you move quickly around the court, stay in position for shots, and be ready for whatever comes your way. We have many students who don’t use to practice footwork as due to being very tired, but too bad, in our training, every lesson before touch shuttle, they will require to do at least 3 to 4 sets of footwork training.

We understand how important is footwork, especially for kids and this is the reason why they should join badminton lessons. Most of the badminton coaches outside are mostly focused on the kids and how to hit the shuttle properly. But for us, we feel that the footwork part must train properly before the upper body. As the balance of your leg can help you achieve different high levels of skill sets. Especially certain skills like smash, front net tab, and netting, etc. Quick-step change in direction, jumping with tiptoes, and more.

2. Strokes

There are various stroke techniques that can be practiced during training, and this can help you to train your stamina as well. The basic strokes techniques in badminton include the forehand clear, backhand clear, and overhead smash.  By practicing these stroke techniques during badminton training, players can improve their badminton skills and increase their level of performance.

It is important to practice these strokes on a regular basis in order to become a better badminton player. Players should also pay attention to their own body mechanics and ensure that they are hitting the shuttlecock with the correct technique. This will help to minimize the risk of injury and improve their badminton performance.

3. Movement

Sometimes if we know footwork but don’t know how to use it, it can be useless too. Because everyone knows the opponent will not return the shuttle to you, as they want you to run around in the court to ensure burn your stamina and win you easily. Movement techniques can range from simple steps and turns to complex jumping and lunging movements.

Having good movement techniques can help players to move faster and with better accuracy with every shot. This can give them an edge in their game as they can react quickly to their opponent’s shots. It can also help them to have better control over their body and their shots.

Tracking and Improving Progress

Progress tracking allows athletes to monitor their performance and make necessary adjustments to their training in order to reach their ultimate goals. Tracking and improving progress in badminton training is especially important, as badminton is a very technical sport.

In order to stay competitive at the highest level, badminton players must continually work on and refine their technique. Without progress tracking, it can be difficult to identify what needs to be improved and how to best go about doing so.

1. Setting Goals. Evaluating Progress

Setting goals in training can help you focus on the areas that need improvement and measure your progress. Before you start any training session, your goals should be achievable and realistic, do not dream big but act small, this definitely will fail.

Some people like to play every day 50 push up and skip rope every day, but most of them cannot last more than 3 months and stop. Set a small goal at the beginner, so that you have something to strive for in every goal.  It is also important to set short-term and long-term goals. Short-term goals might be focused on technique, while long-term goals are more about performance.

2. Adjusting Strategies

Another important factor in adjusting your training strategy is the focus. If you are not good at certain skills, put more effort into it to improve. Many players if they feel the skill is hard, normally will not intend to improve.

End up after some time, they can’t even learn the proper skills because the bad habit is already there, and very difficult to change back. need to concentrate on the task at hand and focus on improving the skills and techniques you are practicing. If you are distracted and unfocused during your training, you will not be able to progress as quickly as you could.
