Website Privacy Policy & PDPA Notice

At ST Badminton Academy Malaysia, we care deeply about the safety and privacy of our students and their families. This page explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal data in simple terms, following the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (Malaysia) and respecting international privacy standards.

This Website Privacy Policy (“Privacy Notice”) serves to inform parents, students, and visitors of ST Badminton Academy Malaysia about how we handle your personal information. Whether you are contacting us from Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, or are a parent inquiring from Singapore, we are committed to being transparent about the data we collect during badminton class registration and training.

By engaging with our academy—whether by sending a WhatsApp enquiry, filling out an online form, or attending a class—you acknowledge the practices described in this notice. This is not legal advice but a clear explanation of our academy’s data protection standards.

To provide safe and effective badminton coaching, we need to collect specific information from parents and adult students. This may include:

  • Student Information: Full name, age, gender, and date of birth (to assign the correct age-group class).
  • Parent/Guardian Contact Details: Name, WhatsApp number, email address, and emergency contact information.
  • Medical Health Data: Information on any allergies, past injuries, or medical conditions (e.g., asthma) that our coaches strictly need to know to keep the student safe during physical activity.
  • Training Media: Photos or videos taken during badminton classes for the purpose of analyzing stroke technique, monitoring progress, or academy updates on our website/social media (with consent).
  • Digital Data: Cookies and usage data when you visit our website (e.g., via Google Analytics) to help us improve our site performance.

We typically collect this data when you send a WhatsApp enquiry, fill out our online contact form, or complete a student registration form at our training venue in Kuala Lumpur. We collect this data for the following specific purposes:

  • Class Administration: To schedule classes, assign courts, and communicate changes in training times.
  • Safety & Emergency: To contact parents immediately if a child feels unwell or injured during badminton training.
  • Progress Tracking: To monitor skill development, allowing our coaches to adjust training intensity and focus.
  • Payment Verification: To verify school fee payments and issue receipts.
  • Security: To maintain a record of attendance for the safety of all students and staff.

Some personal data is compulsory for us to accept a student. For example, we cannot accept a registration without a parent’s emergency contact number or relevant medical history, as this would compromise the child’s safety during training.

Other data, such as consent for photos to be used in social media or marketing, is voluntary. You can choose not to grant this consent, and it will not affect your child’s ability to join our badminton classes.

ST Badminton Academy does NOT sell or rent your personal data to anyone. We keep your family’s information confidential. We may share limited data only when strictly necessary, such as:

  • Tournament Organisers: If you or your child registers for a badminton competition, we may need to pass their name and age to the organizer for entry purposes.
  • Service Providers: Reliable third-party tools we use for academy operations, such as secure cloud storage for attendance records or messaging platforms like WhatsApp.
  • Legal Authorities: If required by Malaysian law or to protect the vital interests (safety) of a student in an emergency.

Security Measures: We use appropriate security practices to keep your data safe. Access to personal information is restricted to authorized coaches and administrative staff who need it to run the academy.

Retention Period: We keep your personal data only for as long as your child is a student with us, or for as long as required by tax and legal regulations (typically up to 7 years for financial records). Once the data is no longer needed, we securely delete or anonymize it.

International Transfer: Sometimes, we use digital tools (like cloud storage or email servers) that may host data outside of Malaysia. By using our services, you consent to this standard practice, understanding that we choose reputable providers with strong security standards.

Since we coach many children under the age of 18, we take extra care with their data. If you are registering a child for our badminton classes, you (the parent or legal guardian) must provide consent on their behalf. We do not knowingly collect data from children without parental approval.

Under the PDPA Malaysia, you have rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access & Correction: You can ask to see what data we hold about you or your child, and request corrections if the information (e.g. phone number) is wrong.
  • Withdraw Consent: You may withdraw consent for optional data uses (like marketing photos) at any time by informing us in writing or via WhatsApp.

To exercise these rights, simply contact us directly.
