Our badminton classes for kids aim to help students develop a strong foundation, which is why structured planning is essential. By following a carefully planned schedule, students are able to make consistent progress within a set timeframe. We do not believe in haphazardly planning the training schedule, where we show up at the court last minute and simply ask the students to do certain exercises. Instead, we prioritize the workflow and progression of our students, as we believe this is important to their overall improvement.

Badminton Classes Westwood Secondary Overview

At Westwood Secondary, our badminton class focuses on ensuring that students learn all the necessary fundamentals to perfection. The training class is designed for kids and teens aged 6 to 17 years and adheres to professional badminton coaching standards. Our students will receive comprehensive instruction on the proper foundation, tactics, full skill sets, and mentality needed to excel in badminton.

Our coach is known for his particular emphasis on basic foundations and will not overlook even the slightest errors in the form. To ensure the best results and improvements for every student, he prefers to keep class sizes small, allowing for more one-on-one time to explain concepts and address individual needs.

Is Proper Foundation in Badminton is Important for Kids

Yes, it is very important. To be honest, most badminton academies do not focus on proper foundations. Why is that? Based on our coach’s real experiences, we sometimes are unsure if the student actually likes badminton or if they are being forced by their parents to come for training. If proper foundations are taught, the students may become tired or lose interest and end up quitting, which would not only affect the coach’s efforts but also lead to disappointment.

Moreover, the cost of training cannot cover the effort and disappointment. Therefore, some coaches tend to teach whatever they can without putting in much effort, so that it does not affect them when the student quits. It is not only the coach’s problem but sometimes parents also do not know if their kids really like badminton. They just let them try it and then send them for training. This is the reason why we only accept students who are genuinely interested in badminton. We understand the importance of proper foundations and insist that our students learn the fundamentals correctly in our Westwood Secondary School badminton training.

Without Proper Foundation can be a Good Player

If a kid or an adult doesn’t have a proper foundation, they will never become a good badminton player. Imagine a player without a proper foundation playing on the court, you can observe their patterns and the way they generate power, and they may appear uncomfortable or unskilled. However, sometimes players are overconfident and are not aware that they look unskilled, or they may not be familiar with what professional badminton skills look like.

Badminton is not just about mastering an outward pattern; it requires an understanding of the inner and outer aspects of each skill. Therefore, just watching videos on YouTube or playing every day is not enough to improve one’s badminton skills. In our Westwood badminton training, our students can only learn proper foundations that help them understand the inner and outer parts of each badminton skill.

At what age can start Badminton Lessons

Over the past 13 years of providing badminton lessons, we have encountered students as young as 5 years old who can learn quite well. This is partly due to their interest in badminton, which may stem from having parents who play the sport.

However, this also depends on each individual child’s character. Some kids are very active and can learn quickly, while others may enjoy playing but not necessarily learning. We have encountered many types of students, but we hope that they can at least learn something from our proper badminton training, as this will be beneficial for them.

What They Can Achieve from this Westwood Secondary Badminton Classes

In our Westwood Secondary School badminton class, our aim is to ensure that all students learn the proper foundation in badminton. This is especially important for beginner-level and school team-level students, as learning everything correctly and avoiding bad habits will help them develop a solid foundation. Although it is not easy to learn, once they have mastered the proper foundation, they will not regret it, as this foundation will serve them well throughout their lives.

A proper foundation is not only necessary for competitive-level players, but even casual players need to learn it to prevent injuries. If they have the correct badminton foundation, they will have a higher chance of progressing to further development, such as joining the school team, sports school, or even the national team. This is because these organizations only accept players who have a strong foundation and are proficient in the fundamentals of the sport.

What is the Class Size for this Badminton Training

At Westwood Secondary School, we offer three class sizes for our badminton lessons, which you can find more information about on our badminton training fees and group page. We provide detailed explanations to help parents understand the differences between the groups. For example, the group of 4 students in one class is intended for exploring interests and may result in a medium level of improvement based on our badminton coach’s experience.

However, we consider this class as an exploration of interest because parents who have witnessed the class have provided feedback indicating that their child cannot fully focus and may not learn much during a lesson with four students. Our focus is on the quality of our students’ improvement, and we base our approach on achieving results rather than prioritizing business and branding. This is the reason why our students’ improvement and quality of instruction are better than those of other badminton academies.

Who will Conduct this Training

Our badminton coach will be conducting the training at Westwood Secondary School, and for all beginners or skill development, the coach will be the only person monitoring and correcting the students. We also have school team and competitive training, and we will invite some of our former students who are currently on the national team, or some skilled players who can spar or coach to maintain the high-quality standards of our training.

We do not believe in having any assistant badminton coaches without experience appearing in our badminton training, as this can negatively impact our students and create more bad habits.

Learning Objectives from this Badminton Training

The main objective of our badminton training at Westwood Secondary School is to provide each of our students with a strong foundation in badminton, which includes skills, upper body, lower body, and most importantly, the right mentality. This is a key point for long-term success. It is because, no matter how good or well-developed a player’s skills, speed, stamina, or strength is, without the right mentality and attitude, they may eventually fail.

This is why our badminton coaches focus heavily on mentality and foundation during the development of every student. If a player’s mentality is good, they can easily train themselves up, even if their stamina is weak or skills are not yet developed. However, if a student’s mentality is not good, they may easily be affected by their surroundings, no matter how good their stamina and skills are, and may still struggle to win.

Quality of this Training at Westwood Secondary

We are confident that the quality of our badminton training at Westwood Secondary School is excellent, and we can guarantee good results if two students are placed in one group. We have tested this training method, and it has proven to be effective. However, it is essential for students to be keen to learn and have a good attitude during training in order to achieve good results.

Some parents may feel that our fee of $220 per month is expensive, but if they calculate properly, they will find that sending their child to other badminton academies for only $90 or $100 per month may seem cheap, but their child may not improve much even after a year of training. This can result in a waste of time and money, as their child may still not know how to play properly. In contrast, parents who pay $220 per month can see improvement every month, and their child can make significant progress within a year. Experienced parents who often send their children to different activities will understand the value of investing in high-quality training for their children.

Applicant Must Fulfill 6 Requirements Before Apply

Applicants must be able to work hard all the time in badminton classes.

Reason: We strictly do not allow any students to waste time just “passing time” in our training, and wasting parent’s money too.

Applicant discipline must be good or please do not apply.

Reason: Any bad discipline found during the training will be informed to quit, so better do not apply.

Applicant must be interested in badminton, not forced by parents to join this training.

Reason: To be honest, we are looking into results instead of that few dollars of training fees, so the student itself must be interested in badminton and wish to learn more from our coach, so all along for training progress, we will keep parents up to date to make sure their kid is improving.

All students must be punctual in every badminton lesson, for example, must wear indoor shoes and should be ready before training starts.

Reason: Our coach spent time figuring out every student’s weakness and planning the training schedule for the day in advance, if our coach saw this kind of attitude, will kill his motivation to think of how to make the student improve more.

Must follow training instructions all the time, if missed any instruction more than 3 lessons will be informed to quit.

Reason: If we keep asking the student to do something but they are not listening to the instruction if they have “no heart” to train, no point to let parents need waste money and send them for training. If they wish to just play for fun, nobody scolds or cares too much in the training, there are a lot of other badminton academies outside there welcoming you to join, but not with us.

Students must be able to train harder, or please do not apply.

Reason: If the student does not train hard, to be honest, the improvement is very slow, some more is only 1-week train 1 time, and only 2 hours, how long need to learn all the foundation? 1 year or 2 years? Impossible, so the best way is to train as much as they can.
